Sam Bergman

Sam Bergman has been a member of the Minnesota Orchestra since February 2000. In
addition to his duties in the viola section, he serves as host and writer for the orchestra’s Inside the Classics concert series, and in 2011-12, he helped lead The MicroCommission Project, which brought a major new symphonic work by composer Judd Greenstein to life with the help of more than 400 small donations.As a soloist and chamber musician,Sam has commissioned and premiered new works by several talented young composers.

He has served as a visiting faculty member at St. Olaf College, and he spends part of his summers teaching and coaching chamber music at Greenwood Music Camp in rural
Massachusetts, where he has been a fixture since the age of 10.

Sam plays a Canadian viola crafted by John Newton from the salvaged timbers of an Ontario barn.
