Sachiya Isomura

Sachiya Isomura, a native of Japan, began playing piano and violin at the age of three and cello at nine, later studying at Toho School of Music in Tokyo and at The Juilliard School in New York.

Prior to joining the Minnesota Orchestra in 1979, he played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  He performed at the First International Cello Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1997 and has also been invited by Seiji Ozawa to perform in the Saito Kinen Orchestra.

Sachiya currently serves on the faculty of Northwestern College.
Sachiya and his wife Hitome were instrumental in organizing the 2011 Benefit Concert for Japan Tsunami Relief presented by over 150 musicians: members of the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Chorale and other friends.

Sachiya plays a cello made by Paolo Testore, Milan, Italy, in 1728.
