Joanne Opgenorth

Violinist Joanne Opgenorth, born in Edmonton, Alberta, is in her 10th season with the Minnesota Orchestra. Previous to this, she was a first violinist in the Washington National Opera Orchestra.

Here in Minneapolis she founded the Isles Ensemble, a group of string musicians from the Twin Cities who play chamber music concerts at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She studied violin at the University of British Columbia and the Juilliard School, where she obtained her bachelor and master of music degrees. Her most influential teacher was Lorand Fenyves, whose integrity and musicianship continue to inspire her. She also holds a JD from Columbia University.

She is raising two young sons with her wonderful husband, Mike. In her free time, she loves reading, gardening, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
